Pruning Seminars

On two consecutive Fridays in January IGGPRA offered seminars in "trellis" and "head" pruning. As is usual at these annual events they are well attended and very helpful, if only to refresh the memory. The trellis pruning offered a hands on demonstration at Kokopelli Vineyard by Marciel from Rio Seco Vineyards - fast! It also displayed a box pruning technique that's employed to reduce costs drastically during times of economic duress. It's quick and brutal and can be done with a hedge trimmer. It's a technique that should probably be used in dire times because it takes 2 to 3 years for the vines to recover after resuming convention pruning. Richard Sauret was the instructor at the Head Pruning seminar at Alta Vista Vineyard.

The next seminar will be grafting to be held in early February. Check our website at www.iggpra.com for the time and place.

Swinging December Social At Falcon Nest

The December Social was a near capacity attendance. A number of those attendees were guests of members. We were elegantly served and accomodated by Frank and Carolyn the owners of Falcon Nest Vineyard and Winery. Their many years in the restaurant industry, both in Europe and the U.S. rewarded us.
